AboutI'm a Technology Integration Specialist, English Teacher, Media Arts instructor, Apple Distinguished Educator, Lead PBS Digital Innovator, and Yearbook adviser from Lecanto, Florida. Voted teacher of the year at Citrus Springs Middle School in 2015, I helped pilot the 1:1 iPad initiative for Citrus County, Florida. I've also worked with Apple and FASA to design iTunes U courses for other educators linking to apps and ELA standards, and lead professional development technology trainings throughout the country. I speak at technology conferences, districts, and schools about technology integration, 1:1 programs, and digital curriculum.
In my current role, I collaborate with teachers in composing effective technology-infused, content-based lessons, and support teachers as they implement the lessons in their classrooms. I also provide assistance and training to district staff, students, and parents in the integration of technology to support student achievement. Previously, as both a Digital Media Specialist and classroom English Language Arts teacher, my students and I created a student-run technology club called the “Genius Squad” to troubleshoot staff and student technology incorporating ISTE standards. We published the “Genius Squad” student-created technology course on iTunes U and it continues to see downloads from across the world. I was even selected to present about the club as a Showcase at the Apple Distinguished Educator 2017 Academy. I also contribute to the blog EdTechAfterDark.com, writing about my philosophy behind education and technology integration. Outside of the district, I regularly create content with and advocate for the usage of Apple’s iPad, iPhone and Mac apps in the classroom, which are posted on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. |
